Kalahari Gemsbok

[Gabriela Plesea]

The Gemsbok is a proud and majestic looking animal well adapted to surviving in arid regions like the Kalahari. In times of drought I have seen them quench their thirst with tsama melons and sometimes wild cucumbers. They do drink when water is available, but unlike Wildebeest they are rather shy when approaching water holes and take a long time to look around to ensure there are no predators.

Here is one beautiful male with an awesome pair of horns. Almost FF, processed in LR and PSCC. Techs as follows:

Well, since you all picked on me about the SS:t3 I decided to go look at the images taken before the Gemsbok pitched up. Guess what, I was shooting a jackal catching doves:bg3: That explains the high ISO...

The Jackal is soooo clever...He hides behind some rocks and then pounces with great speed, randomly grabbing any unfortunate victim that's close enough to his muzzle. BTW doves gather in great numbers at the waterholes, they need to drink when it's very hot. They have to deal with the Lanners too, poor things.
