This was grab shot as I was leaving for the day as the sun was setting. Out of the corner of my eye a flash of white in the distance as a great egret was searching for a mate. This beauty turned directly into the setting sun and ran off two sequences of their standard display. I know, all those twigs (including the shadow on the neck), but I loved the spotlight effect on this beauty.

Nice David ,don't you hate it when stuff gets in the way. Nothing we can do . I love the spotlight effect and feathers fanned out.Color of the breeding lores is beautiful.Could take out a few of the highlights.

An 'almost' shot for me David in that you did all you could at that time in the field - nice light on the bird, great pose, but the branches in the way meant the photography gods didn't smile on you on this occasion. I'd keep this if it were mine but it falls just a little short of a portfolio shot

Very Nice Post. I wish there were no shadows on the bird.

Love the Breeding Plumage...
