Next species from my trip to the Brazilian parts of Amazonia. This is a Red-necked Woodpecker, a big amazonian Woodpecker related to the Pileated Woodpecker in North America. We worked to get a decent shot of this species for two full mornings. My best chances came from a canopy tower when a pair came to attack a hawk that landed just in front of us.

All comments welcome!

Love the colours...Beautiful frame. Personally I would take some from the top, which I think gives a better POV Well done

Spot on with the pose, perch and the background. Enjoyed viewing this. Woodpeckers are one of my favorite birds.

This is fantastic. Incredible bird and that yellow eye just pops! Bird is tack sharp and I particularly like the detail on the front foot. I do agree the top of the frame feels empty and would lose some of it is the proportioning of the rest of the frame permits it.

Very nice. Very nice. Love the way those feet are gripping the trunk. Smokin nice bird. I think you need to lift the exposure about 1/4 stop. I would take a little off of the top, to the spot where the trunk bends in a bit. Easy fixes for a very nice frame.
