New Whimbrel

I've been back to the same locale where I saw the Whimbrel some days ago. It was there again, so here's another photo taken at 5.45pm as the sunset light was nice. I like a 16x9 crop but chose it here in order to crop out a distracting brown background stripe. I also cloned out quite a few foreground distractions. I think it's an improvement on my last Whimbrel post. However, I would have liked another degree or two HA towards me.

I like this one better than the last! The image is sharper and the light very nice.
I see a cloning artifact about an inch to the left of the raised foot- easy fix.
If you can, I would suggest going lower ie. on your belly. That would eliminate a lot of FG "yuckies" and give you more of the ocean BG.
Shorebird photography = on my belly photography with a skimmer pod or handheld! It's a dirty job but so much fun!

One more Vote for going Lower. Specially since it leads to better Backgrounds.

Raised foot is nice.

This is better and I am fine with the head angle for the nice walking pose. The BKGR is also better but still a bit distracting.

Thanks all for the feedback. I guess I could have gone on my belly...would have got my clothes messed up as the sand was wet and soft. I'm going back with more suitable clothes! Never heard of a skimmer pod...but just Googled it...now I know. Cheers.

Nice frame of this whimbrel. The raised foot is nice and the light is pretty nice as well.

Well done and I suggest buying some waders and elbow pads. Helps a lot and makes things a lot more comfortable!

Love these birds. Raised foot is nice but the sharpness isn't there on this one. The bird also need more room into which on the left hand side of the frame. It's a bit cramped as it now. Background is what it is, but you did well to get low and knock a lot of it out.

Hi Gail. Here's my pod. Seen similar on Youtube. $3.50 for the secondhand frypan. Removed the handle. 3/8th" bolt and nut (free from the bolt shop!) Mount ballhead...good to go! Cheers.
