This Cooper's hawk was still waking up from a long night with temperatures below 0F. I first saw it from over 200m on a tree in an open field. I approached it slowly, 10 steps at a time pausing, waiting for it accept me. It took some time and eventually I was within 50m of the tree before it took off. I was surprised how small its circle of safety was or maybe it had to do with the cold weather.

Sharp but way too many branches. If you go Advanced/Manage Attachments you should be able to upload the image at 1920 wide less than 600 KB so we can see the thumbnail and a larger image.
