Hi all,

A scoter taken at Barnegat a couple weeks back. It was generally a cloudy day that opened up with some nice light at the end when this was taken. Usual post processing for me, some NR, 30% crop or so.

Camera: Nikon D500
Lens: 300 PF + 1.4 TC
Specs: 1/2500 f/5.6 ISO 1,600

Thanks for looking and commenting on prior posts!

Hi Alex,
I like this, nice control of the darks with plenty of detail, down to the frayed wingtips! I like the underwing droplets and a bit of spray. Eye looks good w catchlight, highlights on front side body catches my eye... Glad you had some good light.

Nice pose on the bird with some nice light. Also like the water in the background.

Nice Wing Postion and Head Angle.

I like the catch light in the eye as well. I have not seen in the bird out in the field so I cannot comment on the colors.

Everything else looks really good.

Very well done!
Only suggestion I have would be to evict the bright water spots on the body.
I love how sharp it is and the incoming flight position,
Gail

Hey Alex, I have a shot almost exactly like this one from there! I think the shot would benefit from a little more sharpening, especially on the head. Maybe try to select the head and use smart sharpen at 50% and .3 radius.

First, this is a bill shape and darkish cap reveal this as a Black Scoter. Otherwise the shot looks really good. I agree with a bit more sharpening on the head. The water is a bit busy, but that's what you get on the open ocean where these birds live!

Sorry, all been MIA this week. Appreciate all the comments. I added some more sharpening on the head and cloned out the HLs on the chest and it was much improved. Best,
