Low angle, detail, moss, splash, and prey are all great! Direct eye contact is the only thing that's missing. I might rotate the frame CCW like 1 degree to get the water perfectly level. Depending on your tolerance and cloning ethics, you could also clone out the faint bright smears at the bottom of the frame. I love the specular highlights around the bird.

This is one of your best shots Dan.
I love your low POV, the bug in the mouth, and all the duckweed on the birds back.
I see a strong blue cast in the back so I would go to selective color in PS CC and reduce the blues in the blacks.
I would also increase the exposure a bit.
I like the rain drops as well.
Compwise, I would take a bit off the bottom.
I had a good laugh at your comment about "crappy Nikon equipment"!!:bg3:

This is really nice. The vegetation on the bird is so cool as is the prey item. Like Dorian I just wish it was facing us. As the bird is so crouched down I would use a 16:9 crop. And for what it is worth, the vast majority of shots that I have ever taken with any gear are crappy! Only a very small number of them are keepers.

Very nice. Love the prey item and the 'camo'. A 16x9 crop would work well here. Nice details. TFS

The angle is perfect here. Yes the birds head is slightly turned away but i don't care. Splashing water is great as well.

Nice shot. Agree with others. Better Head Angle would be nice. I would take some canvas off at the bottom and clean out some details to improve this image.

Love the camouflage, prey, POV, colors. Agree with others about HA and pano crop, but a very cool image.

I care. For me with the bird facing away it would be a game breaker. As presented, I think that it needs some CCW rotation.
