Captured this image at one of our local grasslands early last month. He has just launched off that bunch of dried straw, after landing on it thinking he had spotted a Vole beneath. Watching him for an hour or so, gave me the opportunity to see him successfully catch two or three. C&C welcome.

D500, Nikon 500mm f4/G + 1.4 TC, 1/1600s, f 5.6, ISO 3200, Gitzo, Wimberley Gimbal head.

Seems everyone is finding harriers. Like the look he is giving you. The environment is common for these birds.

I too like the look it is giving you! Nice habitat, and good to have at least one of the talons showing. I do detect some noise on the subject, and I would likely crop out about half the oof FG area. Lucky you were able to observe it for so long, they usually make one quick pass and move on to other fields.

Thanks John, and Daniel. Daniel thanks for pointing out the noise in the subject. As for the Harrier moving on to other fields, this is exactly what he did. You are correct. Should have mentioned this. I've gone to this location for years and they pretty much have a routine that has them flying over several fields, mostly in the same direction. Requires a great deal of patients, in this case at least 3 or 4 large fields, for him to return.
