Hi all,

A cormorant shaking off taken at Barnegat a couple weeks ago. I've seen terns do this, but rarely other birds, so it was fun to capture this.

Camera: Nikon D500
Lens: 300 PF + 1.4 TC III
Specs: 1/2500 f/5.6 ISO 1,000

Thanks for looking and commenting on prior posts!

Interesting behavior well done. Keep your eyes open for the occasional Great Cormorant there ...

Hi Alex, well exposed on this dark subject, and you have exposed the plumage nicely. Although we cant see much of the eye, at least he didnt close it. Its not every day we manage to capture birds shaking in mid flight. Well captured.

Never seen this behaviour from a cormorant before, so well done for getting such a clear capture. just enough of the eye showing to really make it work

I bet you were really pleased when you looked at that raw file, I think everyone would love to get a "shake off" image - well done. I like the image well caught, looking for a few moments makes me ask is it a little bit heavy? Perhaps just a little too much contrast? Did you check the colour balance prior to processing?

Some gulls do this also. You got this cormorant right at the peak of action. Very good overall, I'd just be tempted to bring out the blue eye more.

Neat frame nice and sharp. The blue water is great.

Thanks all, much appreciated. I'll see if I can bring out the eye a bit more. I can take another look at the contrast. I think the WB is natural as these birds have a slightly green sheen to their feathers. Best,
