These sandpipers were observed in a huge flock on a nearby lake. Due to the lack of rain in Brisbane (driest November on record) I was able to make my way over the mudflats to the water's edge. However, the birds were still some distance away. This is a fairly large crop as I wanted to focus on the Sandpipers with their reflections that were most in focus. This is my first venture into a more or less high key style. I didn't have my 1.4x extender with me, which I know would have got me closer:e3

Like the high key treatment. Too bad that one bird is looking away. The crop works well.

Agree with John. Wish the back two birds had better HAs. Love the reflections. TFS

The birds and the reflections are nice. High key works well here. The processing has not been optimized to properly show the brown and red tones of these birds. In addition the image quality is not great from the crop.

Image quality is poor and the birds are too dark as noted by Mr. Grant. The front two HAs are fine, the rear two are not good. My gut feeling is that you would be much better off on a tripod for images like this. I have never seen this species :)

Thanks Artie. My main frustration is not being able to get closer...even using a tripod with the 1.4x tc they were still too far away...but maybe the IQ would be better.

Paul. See my comments in Pane #7 here (http://www.birdphotographers.net/forums/showthread.php/146847-My-branches-landing-(another-AF-test)?p=1200571#post1200571). They apply equally here ... In part I said, My belief is that the problem is with the original image capture ...
