This image was created on September 23, 2018 on the Fall Fort DeSoto IPT. I used the hand held Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1175034-REG/nikon_af_s_nikkor_200_500mm_f_5_6e.html/BI/6633/KBID/7226/kw/NI20050056VR/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xNI20050056VR) (at 400mm) and the blazingly fast professional digital camera body, the Nikon D5 DSLR camera body with dual XQD slots) (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1214152-REG/nikon_1557_d5_dslr_camera_body.html/BI/6633/KBID/7226/kw/NID5XQD/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xNID5XQD). (Auto) ISO 720. Matrix metering +1 stop: 1/2000 sec. at f/5.6 in S (Shutter Priority) mode (TV in Canon) was somewhat of an over-exposure. AUTO1 WB at 7:43am in full sun. Center Group (grp)/Shutter Button AF was active at the moment of exposure. AFA Fine-Tune Value: zero. See the Nikon AF Fine-tune e-Guide here (http://birdsasart-shop.com/the-nikon-af-fine-tune-e-guide/).

This image was created from a horizontal original. The WHITEs were saved during the RAW conversion in ACR.

As for the image, don't be shy; have at it. (No spoilers please ...)

with love, artie

ps: Please e-mail for BPN discount info on the upcoming Early Winter DeSoto IPT.

Hey Artie, your nailing them with your Nikon gear. Sharp, nice even light on the wing surfaces. Works well in a vertical, I might have gone to a 5x7 and rotated the bird a tad CCW so it is diving for the bottom left corner. Would have to see and work with it. A thing with me that I love the corners. Thank you for sharing.

I love the light and pose. I love the comp with the perfect amount of space all around. I too will leave it to others as I've seen the blog as well :S3:.

Excellent pose here Artie with a great head angle. I read your blog as well as I always do. Have an opinion on what you did but did not read the comments there and will not spoil either.

nice dynamic pose, nice even light and wing position. might be tempted to use SS 30-40 , 0.5 on the head only. I keep my SS fastest than 1/3200sec for diving terns. you will get better results with the 500 PF now, AF is MUCH faster

I never liked the 200-500 but I lost almost nothing in selling mine so many folks must like it a lot....

Love the pose and the crop shows the bird well. The trailing legs are nice as is the HA. Personally I would have liked to see the whites a wee bit whiter.

That's what happens when you start with an image that is borderline over-exposed ...

Love the pose. The 'determined' look is cool as are the visible feet. I read the blog so no spoilers from me! TFS

Very nice. The pose, determined look, and exposed feet combine to make this a great tern image. I have not read the blog, but I'll say the the primaries look really similar on the two wings.

Hey Dorian, There is a good reason that the primaries look so similar ...

I like the 200-500. Most folks like it because of the price tag. I am putting mine up for sale.
