This photo of the Male Red-bellied Wooddpecker was taken at the Viera Wetlands, Florida on 5/31/08. They are in the process of building their nest. I used PS CS3 to enhance this photo.

Equipment Used:
Nikon D200
Nikon 500mm F4 Manual lens
Nikon 1.4X Teleconverter
Tripod

Camera Setting:
ISO - 400
F-stop f/11
Speed - 1/200

Please supply me with feedback. Thanks, ADubin

Beautiful capture with great color and detail and superb eye contact Arnold . I would like to see a tad more canvas to the left . Fine work and thanks for sharing.

Judy,

Off to the left of this photo is the bright blue sky. I initially look at cropping and leaving some blue sky in my photo. After looking at it several times I thought it would look better if I just show the tree. Next time I will try to get a different when I capture this image again. Thank for your comments, ADubin:)

I like it, just as it is. I suppose there are things that could improve it, but it feels very intimate as it is. I feel like I am a part of this picture when I look at it.

Hi Arnold, Is this anywhere near full frame? I like the framing. It seems as if the bird's head could use a good round of selective sharpening.

Arnold let me know that this crop represents only 10% of the original frame. Such huge crops will always effect image quality and apparent sharpness. Aside from some noise, the image actually looks pretty good for such a huge crop.
