Since Walker posted a shot of our amazing encounter with a Spotted Owl I figured I may as well post a shot of another amazing encounter we had with a pair of young Great Horned Owls. This was from the same evening as the Western Screech Owl that I have previously posted. 104 degrees at night and swarming mosquitoes but oh so worth it! :5 Cropped to vertical.

Canon 1dx mark ii and Canon 600 f4 ii. ISO 800, F5.6, SS 1/100. Flash set to ETTL and high speed sync. 0 exposure compensation. Tripod mounted.

Classic owl night flash shot. Black background makes this one pop. Great perch.

Very nice Isaac.
The classic black bg is very nice.
Feather details look great and I love the direct gaze!

Hi Isaac, brilliant use of flash here - so well controlled. Great eye contact, and those eyes really pop. I like the detail on the Owl, and overall, good DOF over the entire image. A great sighting, and well captured.

Yes, the black BG sure makes the beautiful bird 'pop'. Lovely feather detail and a facial expression that rocks. Very nice image...Well done.
