Boredom pushed me to shoot insects today. It's something I've been telling myself I should get into more but I just haven't committed. I found these two in my yard so I had no excuse. I'm not familiear with shooting insects so it would be great to hear people's opinion and suggestions. I know I should get a mp-e to start. Too much black? This was shot with a 5div, 100mm, tripod, and one off the mount flash with a diffuser. f/11 1/60 ISO 500 no crop.

I like the idea here. I would like to the insects bigger in the frame. I would crop some of the black at the bottom.

Hi John. I agree. This was a job for the MP-E. Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim,
I agree with the assessments above. Needs to go brighter and cropping from bottom would help. I like the subject placement on the leaf - interesting perspective.
