Not blessed with good looks, and a cackling call to match. The name originated from the bald head and collar reminiscent of a Friar cleric. In the honeyeater group as it is a nectar feeder.
1DXII 400mm F/2.8L II & 2XIII 800mm 1/4000 f7.1 iso800 SUV as cover gear resting on a folded towel on the bonnet.
Cropped from horizontal levels and light sharpening.

Hi Colin, I agree with John's comments... nice image. I like all about the image, especially that it is a bird I have never seen before. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks, for the curious here is a link to a video I took of a chorus of these birds 'singing' under a Mammatus cloud sky. Might need to allow Flash.

Looks great. Fantastic image quality and this is a really good bird on a stick image. Details, pose and background are all great. Nice to see you posting again as well. Now lets see this bird eating some stone-fruit flowers or something!

Interesting looking bird, and well captured, Colin. Very nice BG also. Unique cloud formation in the video, and love the accompanying chorus.

Lovely image Colin. Nice BG, perch and it is naturally clean.
Enjoyed the video, it's hard to forget a chorus of these birds chattering away!
