Sunflower

I made this image in Genola, UT during my trip to Lavender Fields.

The trip did not turn out to be as good as I would have like to, but I was able to photograph my first decent sunflower image of the year, so I can call it a success.

This is shot in a cloudy day early morning with camera on tripod, using live view

I do with I thought about some diffuser to tame the highlights a little more. As the day went on wind picked up and it was difficult to get a sharp image.

Nikon D850, Sigma 150 mm Macro
ISO 1600, f/18, 1/80 sec
Matrix Metering, Manual Mode.

Post Processing:-

Slight Crop, I filled in at the right of the image.
RAW processing using Capture Pro 11
Nik Filters, Sharpening and Noise Reduction (Through I could have gotten away with no NR)

Lovely colours, if the circumstances permitted this would be a prime subject for focus stacking and then you would get all the flower head parts in focus. I like the image including composition and colours, my only reservation is the flower parts on the rim of the centre are not in focus.

I agree with all the comments.

Initially I wanted to try focus tracking. With the slight breeze it was not possible so I settled for getting max depth of field.

If I was to shoot this again then I will go for focus stacking in case of no wind etc. If there was a wind then I will try to shoot this with same aperture but not as close and try to crop (taking advantage of 46 megapixels), and try to get more depth of field.
