Pileated Woodpecker Tree Inspection.

This fella was inspecting a potential nesting site. I could hear it tapping on the inside walls, and briefly peeking out here and then.

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/640s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, FF, a few spot cleanings on the tree, and toned down the very brightest parts on it (along the right edge).

This is cool Daniel. Love that dead on stare. We recently found the first ever Pileated nest in New York City. Unfortunately it is high up and far off the trail so not great photo opportunities.

Daniel - I like the composition and the preparation to get yourself into position for this shot. I would image you probably have a series of shots of just the hole and then woodpecker...then the hole...then the woodpecker. They're soo much fun to watch. Thanks for sharing this one.
