P.S. I was photographing a stationary bird and saw this spoonbill landing out of the corner of my eye. I turned, captured focus without time to change the settings.

Joe - So this looks like a great example of Artie's question: "what do you do when the action happens?...press the button!" Even though you may had your camera set for lower action with the iso 250, I say you got yourself a beautiful keeper there. I love the wing position, the reaching action with the feet, and especially the light coming through the feathers. I wonder if you may be able to "open up" the shadows in the eye (lighten the eye) and under the chin a bit? Perfect sort of shot for the high key theme. Thanks for sharing this one.

Like the composition and the pose on the bird. High key works well here.

Yep I agree with Noel... Looks good at that SS. Nice frame Joe. Wonderful flight pose, and great colours.

Joe:
Perfect timing on the landing pose, love the feet out so dramatically. Pushing the button worked out pretty darn well here!

A striking image. I like the beautiful feather colors against the high key sky and the landing pose. The motion blur in the wings adds to this one.
