When the loon chicks are too big to ride on the parents backs anymore ( 10-14 days old), they still like the protection and warmth of the parent, and will stick their head under the adults feathers. The parents are very tolerant of this.

D810. 600VR f/7.1 1/1250s ISO 400

Cleaned up a couple of water spots, toned down the catchlight reflection in the water (it was long and drawn out because of the shooting angle)

Advice and comments always appreciated.

Cheers

Great low angle. Love the green water. Learned something new about the loons.

Beautiful Image. I hope to photograph some time on the future.

I like the low point of view ,Clean back ground and the exposure on the whites.

Very cool behavior you captured here. Nice and sharp as well. I do wish we could see the chicks head but then of course that would not be the same type of behavioral image!

Hi Randy, you could also call this swimming in tandem. Gotta love the water's reflection on the parents head. Your normal exposure and sharpness techs spot on as always.

Excellent shot Randy. I really like your Loon shots and am going to have to make a trip north of the border and see if I can get some loons.

Thanks Randy, silly looking chick, but really smart, just after some warmth. This is lovely.
