As some of you may know, I recently made a move from Canon to Nikon. This is my first official image post using Nikon gear. This male Canvasback made a very close approach to me the other day, and I got frames before and after he got dirty; I think the muddy frames give him a little more character and tell a story about his behavior. FYI I had the ISO dialed up a bit because I was set up for flight shots.

Nikon D850, 600mm + 1.4x, f/5.6, 1/2500, ISO 1000, manual exposure, hand held

Doug, nice first shot with the new gear, the whites look just a wee bit hot but nice details and I really like the water.

nice the muddy head looks funny! we increased the posting size to 1920 pixels, it is much better for showing off those pixels ;)

I really like the eye showing through the mud. Lovely detail and colours on the water. Nice detail and colours on the bird. The reflection adds.

Doug:

Congrats on getting the right camera gear!

Pretty impressive mud pack on this one. Amazing it doesn't bother their eye when they do this.

With the D850, I do suspect the bigger size image would show off the tremendous detail that camera can render.

Cheers

Nice image Doug. Love that red eye poping out of that muddy face. Details look great but posting at the new larger size will look even better. Well done

Hahaha, fabulous Doug and congrats on your official Nikon post. Image looks terrific, ruby eye and muddy face mask. Love the drops on the back.

Figures that an ophthalmologist would comment on the muddy eye!!!
