I thought I'd start the new year off by posting another butterfly in flight shot I took back in September. I found these quite challenging to capture - many shots taken to get a keeper.

Now this is a very amazing image. Love the extended tongue, the perfect downstroke, the raised abdomen, and the beautiful background. Did you pre-focus and pray or was AF active at the moment of exposure ???

with love, artie

Great shot Allen very well done, fortunate and very good wing position.

Hi John, Arthur, and Jonathan, thank you for your comments.

Arthur, I kept autofocus on the butterfly as it was perched on the flower and burst shots as it flew away. The idea was to obtain some sharp photos in flight hoping the butterfly would stay in the plane of focus as it took off. It sometimes worked and of course often it did not. I took many frames to get a keeper or two.

Great work Allen and a hard one to pull off. When I saw the thumbnail, I thought the butterfly was upside down! Opening it was a nice surprise. Background is great and I like the nice simple composition.
