Seems appropriate for Halloween to have a dark and spooky kind of post. This Great Gray Owl was photographed last winter during a snow storm at the extreme northern most tip of New York State.

Canon 1DX and Canon 500 f4 ii + 1.4x iii. ISO 1250, F8, SS 1/1600. Processed with DPP 4.6 and PS.

Isaac,

This is perfectly appropriate for Halloween! I love the snowfall and the owl seems to be nice and low (not too far above eye level). Best part for me is the head turn...nice capture.

Yes, very nice. Just exactly how you would see the owl from a distance. and, the natural surroundings make for a very nice frame.

Beautiful shot, with great environment. Very nice for the theme.

Well executed image Isaac. I like the way the trailing wispy branches droop down to continue the line of the tail feathers. Having both eyes visible makes the shot. The image conveys the vast emptiness of the forest environment surrounding the bird and the smallness of the bird in that setting, the sense of which I think is essential to this theme.

Liking this image very much, Isaac. Like the full look back and those intense eyes. Good shutter speed catching some of the snow flakes sharp and others in motion.

Excellent work Isaac. Lovely mood to this scene which is enhanced by the way you've treated the tones in this shot. I must be unlucky because I don't think I've ever seen an owl in daylight myself. Falling snow really adds too (and another novelty for me). Your framing and composition also helps make this stand out for me.
