Two of the 3 chicks in this nest fledged on Wednesday and have been making lots of short flight loops around the nesting area. This image was captured Thursday morning as the sun cleared the low cloud mass to the east, at ISO 2500. Slight crop off the bottom to hide the frame that supports the nest. The chicks eyes are naturally orange and turn yellow as adults.

Nikon D3, 850mm, 1/800@f6.7, FF -1.3.

Positive suggestions are always appreciated.

Great angle and good-looking bird. How did you get at eye level? I might put him further to the right in the frame and apply some NR on the BG. You could also crop a bit off the top. Thanks for sharing.

The nest is in a downtown area atop a telephone pole. There is a public parking garage due south of the nest and right across the street from the nest. So, you are about 50 feet from the nest and at eye level from the upper deck.

Thanks, sounds like a great place to photograph them, especially with the clean BG.

Great location story, perfect EXP technique, wonderful look back head turn, and a great BKGR. The o-o-f branch in the l-r-c is distracting; why ISO 2500 without trying for more d-o-f? As is, you could still tone down the white o-o-f branch a bit.

Wonderful capture Hugh with great lighting and superb detail. Really like the head turning back and the excellent eye contact. !!!
