A feeder shot of a female Anna's Hummingbird from Santee CA. Always amazed at the shutter speeds required to try and freeze the wings on these little jewels. This is 1/3200s, f/5.6, 400mm, ISO 1250 on a Canon 5DIV, EF100-400 IS II. Thanks for checking it out.

You caught wing and head position just right here Roger and I like the way the claws on the feet are showing. 1/3200 has frozen the wings nicely. I was shooting these this summer and should have been using a higher SS. I'm a bit surprised you had to take ISO to 1250 ( not that it has hampered the image in any way I can detect ) to get that speed at f/5.6 in your California sunshine. What was the light like for this shot?

Many thanks Bob. The light was falling, call it late afternoon, and indirect. The feeder was set up between two buildings. The feeder was on a porch, and the birds very used to human presence. Next up is capturing these little guys on some natural flowers!

I have an obsession with photographing Crocosmia Lucifer and I was lucky enough this summer to find a patch of this flower with some hummers flitting to and fro in it --maybe I will post one, even if I didn't quite get the wings frozen.

The bird does look grumpy, Roger! Nicely captured frame and I personally don't mind a bit of wing blur although not to everyone's taste - as long as there is good sharpness on the head and body, which you have here. So please share the more blurry wing shots. Background is lovely and you've handled the tones and colours nicely. Thanks for sharing.
