I didn't think I had anything to submit for this months theme, but then a quick check showed Lemon Sharks are in the 'near threatened' category.

As you can see, this one is close to the surface, so its natural colours are a little more apparent on the body. If you get them right at the surface, the yellow cast on the skin is quite striking, but at least there is more of a tinge here.

This was a lovely close pass, this is about 90% of the original frame. I did have to evict a couple of BG distractions, both shark and errant divers bubbles.

Hi Mike - This works for me and now I know why they are called Lemon Sharks :S3:. The vivid blues, placement in frame and visible teeth all come together for an excellent image. Well done.

Nice to have that upwards surface in frame mate it makes this one for me ,beyond you placement in frame and the grin . There is something special about that interface betwixt water and ..............

Cheers for the knowledge too Mike, I didn't know their name came from colour love the depth that the blues run it's so cool to see that graduation, add that to the interface and already something special happens. Add in a subject like this complete with HA ....for me a winner buddy.

Those rays striking through the blue are ok too huh?:w3

Mike, this is a real 'wow' shot for me. Looking at the lens you used, it was extremely close. I guess they are safe enough to be near? Also, you didn't mention location.

But back to the photo, I echo the comments already made especially the colour gradation down the frame, the position of the shark, the teeth... and no one has mentioned that piercing eye. IQ, colours and tones all look great too. Really top shot. Thanks for sharing.

This was from earlier this year at Palm Beach on the Eastern Florida coast. They are friendly as long as you follow the rules on how to behave around them, they're happy to have physical contact with you but you need good diving skills and the usual respect when around potentially dangerous animals. That said, I'm not aware of any reports of humans being attacked by this particular species.

It was pretty close, about 18 inches from me for this shot
