Hi Stuart,
Like the diagonal comp and the in your face look...........at that magnification DOF is very good where necessary. It's a little tight in the frame ..........even for me on the hind leg and front antennae....but overall I still like the way you presented this little guy.

Agree with Roman. That apart, I see a strong yellow scattered light. Hence wondering if the white balance should be brought down a little...

Hi Stuart.

Very nice, good detail and looks like it was made in morning light. What is the subect?
The first thing that come to mind when I look at this image is a 90 deg CCW rotation to vertical. this would make it much more powerful I think. That and you clipped a foot!

If you used flash why the 1 Sec SS? If you did used flash I think the output missed the subject completely. In most cases just dial in F11 in AV, dial in some - comp or just use manual flash and fire away. Flash would have filled in the shadow.

Neat creature here. I like the colours and patterning.

Hey Stuart, cute little critter, clip on the back top leg was mentioned and I think I would clone the vacant space in the leaf in the lower left side.

Not being a nitpicker, I think this is one cool looking beetle!
