Hi John - A nice simple portrait of the fawn. The comp works well. For me though the bright green bg is inconsistent with the overcast conditions you describe and also distracts and draws the eye away from the fawn. I took the image first into ACR and adjusted the WB and tint slightly and significantly lowered the luminosity of the greens. I then took it into PSCC and in Hue/Saturation layer darkened the greens by -25. IMHO the fawn now draws the eye and is the star of the image. WDYT?

Rachel

Hi John -- nice subtle adjustments by Rachel and the image is improved by a few notches. Nicely framed on your part .

Hi John, I quite like the framing here, but I agree the BKG colour does look a bit of for the time of day. Eyes to ears look sharp, but not the muzzle, so you wanted more DoF, so up the ISO. In both images the ears lack the detail which you already have there in the RAW, you have to tease that out in LR John. Interesting, from the OP I changed the WB, added a Tonal Curve adjustment, made some adjustments to the ears and the BKG colour, but then Exported it as usual via LR and it's sharpening. A tad over sharp perhaps (that will be corrected from changing the 'in-put' sharpening), but I reckon you are missing these crucial steps and just Export John, as this goes back to a comment I mention on a previous posting?

I do feel that if you can get this stage right John your images will be far better and show the truth quality of the capture, look at those fine white hairs in the ears and viens, cool.

Thanks Steve, How are the ears so sharp now?

How are the ears so sharp now?

By getting/teasing more 'content' out, that is already in the original capture, but also using the LR Export dialog boxes for your web files.

A nice simple frame John with good HA and eye contact with sweet BG. I like the RP of both Rachel & Steve. Steve did manage to ek out a bit more detail.

Lovely shot against simple background. Nothing to add to the comments already made. The work Steve and Rachel have done lift the shot a level or two.

Hi John this is lovely ....a perfect backdrop to make the deer stand out nicely .
As colors are subjective i would try and choose what fits your opinion the best . I personally would take Steve´s subject and your BG
