Our trip to Mara in June was fruitful when it comes to spotting big cats and we were lucky to see two leopards apart from Lions & Cheetahs. I know I have posted better ones but this was from my recent trip so i thought I will share it with you all. Since the leopard was in bushes, I went in for a close up to minimise the distracting foliage. I really pushed that ISO up in this trip where needed to get the best techs for the situation. And the 7D II was not bad. I will upgrade to 5D 4 or 1D X2 next year.
7D II
500mm II
1/1000
f/7.1
ISO 3200

Hi Sanjeev, nice looking capture, but not sure again about the colour and what is gong wrong on your images, sorry.

Just taking the OP and adjusting the Temp +11 and Tint -14 it starts, I hope, to what you saw??? In what direction you then wish to take it is personal choice, but this to me is about spot on and just look at the detail you got at ISO3200, you should be well pleased.

Steve

PS I did remove the HL on the RHS.

Thanks for the RP Steve, this was again before the Cal so my bad on being lazy and not re doing it. Your RP is in the right direction and the leopard was in the shade & if I remember it right it wasn't so warm. It will be somewhere between my OP & your RP. Yes I was pleased with the detail & sharpness.

It will be somewhere between my OP & your RP.

Well the RP just takes the casts out from your OP and so you have an almost balanced playing in which to work from.

Hi ya Snajeev, interesting notes on colour,i'm truly not familiar with wild leopards or the light in Africa ,but from the off the colours seemed slightly strange to me . What is cal??(ahh maybe calibration?) What time of day was the image taken and what was the sky like please? Stunning detail Sanjeev. What really draws me and makes me dwell is the eyes, that slightly wayward look is beguiling Sanjeev, beautifully captured. I like your framing am arguing over a bit more at base, but beyond that the image works for me,it's that look it's wonderful mate

take care

Hi Sanjeev - Going tight was a good idea to eliminate a lot of foliage. Steve's rp has again improved the color. I would bin whatever you pp before the calibration and start over. Sorry. I find that with the 7D2 it's all about getting the exposure right in camera. When you get it right, noise isn't an issue.

Rachel

I really like this tight portrait, good call with the framing. My first thought was the colours looked a bit out but thats already been addressed. Excellent IQ at ISO 3200

Beautiful leopard Sanjeev and nicely framed too, love the look in his eyes.

I hope you get the colours right, IMO Steve's RP is spot on. Nevertheless a lovely frame and techs are great, nice sharpness and detail.

Thank you for sharing images of so many species, a pleasure to view, what amazing sightings you had:w3

Kind regards,

Hi Sanjeev a gorgeous leopard you got here , lovely portrait .
You have the tone and the detail , just the color does look a bit too cool for my taste .
Steve has sent you a good during point with his RP , i might go between the two as from your intro .

Lovely image with good IQ !!!
