While photographing the terns, this heron flew by...
Nikon D750 and Sigma 500 f/4 lens at f/7.1, 1/4000, ISO 2000. Raw conversion in LR and then in PS with masked curve layer to bring out textures in the sky.

Nice capture. It looks like the sigma 500mm is performing well! Did you have to calibrate it with the dock?

Beautiful light and good incoming position with great wing position.
BG looks very nice.
Whites well exposed for.
I like your comp but could see a tighter version.

Perfect head angle! Nice light and overall IQ. Too bad it did not fly a touch closer to you. The shadow on the front wing is unfortunate, but all else looks great.

Thanks, guys! Yes, the bird flew a little too far; this is about 50% crop as presented. I think it wouldn't work if it's just a plain blue sky.
Mitch, even though I have the dock, but no, I've only used the in-camera AF fine tune.

nice light and wing position, I would crop it together though, there is too much empty space here
