We went to the Ocean City Rookery the other day for the Night-Herons. But it was the Glossy Ibises that put on a show. Taken shortly after sunrise, looking over Great Egg Harbor Bay. Full frame except for slight rotation. Had to move the bird back in the frame for comp. Toned down some oof white buildings of Ocean City in the far BG.

D500, Sigma 150-600 @ 550mm; ISO 1250, 1/2500s @ f/6.3 manual.

Spectacular light and wingspread. The face, however, looks quite crunchy possible from over-sharpening. Love the BKGR strips too.

Is that NJ or MD?

with love, artie

Thanks Artie. This is Ocean City, New Jersey. The face doesn't look crunchy to me, but I probably need a new monitor. On my first stab at processing it didn't look sharp enough, so I hit the face with another dose of selective sharpening and may have gone too far. Also, this was my first outing with the Sigma lens, and I think it might perform better at f/8.

Such a beautiful bird when the sun hit them just right. Nice spread wing flight post, shows off the underside of the wings well. I like the multi-colored background. Thank you for sharing, Bill.

Love the light and the banking pose, the details looks soft/crunchy to me as well? Was the RAW sharp?

Thanks Arash. The RAW was not what you would consider razor sharp. I'll post another one where the RAW was sharper.
