This image was created on the 2017 San Diego IPT with the hand held Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1092632-REG/canon_9524b002_ef_100_400mm_f_4_5_5_6l_is.html/BI/6633/KBID/7226/kw/CA1004002LIS/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xCA1004002LIS), the Canon Extender EF 1.4X III (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/732113-USA/Canon_4409B002_Extender_EF_1_4X_III.html/BI/6633/KBID/7226/kw/CA14XEF3/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xCA14XEF3), and my favorite bird photography camera body, the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV. (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1274705-REG/canon_eos_5d_mark_iv.html/BI/6633/KBID/7226/kw/CAE5D4/DFF/d10-v2-t1-xCAE5D4) ISO 400. Evaluative metering +2/3 stop: 1/400 sec. at f/9 in Manual mode. AWB. LensAlign/FocusTune micro-adjustment: +5.

Center AF point/AI Servo/Expand/Shutter button AF was active at the moment of exposure. The selected AF point was on the side of the bird’s breast just in front of the bend of the wing, right on the same plane as the bird’s eye.

The 100-400 II/1.4X III/5D Mark IV is deadly on the cliffs of La Jolla. Learn lots more about the creation of this image in the blog post here. (http://www.birdsasart-blog.com/2017/06/25/canon-100-400-ii1-4x-iii5d-mark-iv-deadly-in-lajolla-my-self-critique-and-another-big-fat-liar/)

I like the raised foot and the head angle, nice light as well.

Lovely looking frame. The detail on the bird and that BG, really makes it 'pop'. Very nice HA, and the raised foot adds interest. Good POV

Nice one Artie, I like the raised foot, HA, and the incline works for me. The BG and the purple blues and greens are sweet. TFS

Love the detail of the feathers against a layered colored BG. Head position and raised foot a big plus

sweet, the light has given this one a 3D effect!

Artie:

I had the same impression as Arash, a def. 3D effect from the light/background combination. Makes him pop.

The slight hill, raised foot, gives a sense of motion.

Cheers
