Crane Flies (Order Diptera, Family Tipulidae) look like giant mosquitoes, but are harmless. There are 64 Genera and some 1,600 species in North America and individuals are very difficult to identify to species. Canon 1DX II, 100mm macro, 1/500, f/8, ISO 2500, natural light, HH, NR on background. I toned down the brighter areas of the background.

Stev these are common here too but having said that it is not at all easy to get a good shot. By that I mean one in the ideal plane, this is a real humdinger, it is to me surprisingly colourful too. Great shot you nailed it!

I am not familiar with the insect, quite nice as shown. I agree with Jon, nice work getting the insect aligned with the focal plane. Thank you for sharing.
