My first bird image of 2017, it's been slow going to start the year! When I saw hoar frost forming on the surrounding trees and shrubs I immediately setup up a food offering for the local feeder birds in hopes to get them perching among the beautifully frosted branches. This one is my favorite from the session...

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1250s, f/8, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, cropped for comp (about 80% FF), darkened the pupil.

Beautiful. Looks perfectly exposed and focused with fine feather detail. Great light, a pleasing image.

What a beautiful little bright spot you captured on what appears to be a very frigid day! Excellent lighting and details, and I like this composition.

Very nice, Daniel. The composition is excellent with the frosty branches framing the bird.

Awesome shot -- from the colors to the setting to the detail -- I'm envious

I love the softness of the bird against the frost. The perch speaks for itself. I also like the pose and HA. You have captured a common bird and made it look amazing.

Well done Dan

Great shot of a wonderful little bird. I never get tired of watching these guys, they always seem to be one of the boldest and most inquisitive birds in the yard. I wish the dark branch in the background wasn't running directly into the tail (better if it was gone altogether), but sometimes you can't do much about that sort of thing.

You nailed this one Daniel, really gives a feel for the cold environment
