Goldeneye in Flight

This is one from the weekend, when we had some good light again, over here(a rarity). My injured shoulder seems to be back to normal. so I have been getting stuck into flight shots. The Goldeneye are flying in and out of the harbour regularly, the problem is, light. The only time I can get a decent shot, is late afternoon when the sun is almost behind me, before it goes into shade. At this time of the year it is about 3pm. These guys take the same flight path in and out of the harbour, but they are so different in their flight patterns, it makes it difficult to get a shot.

Will:

Good wings up pose, love the slight head tilt towards you, good eye contact, well exposed.

Speaking of the eye, I might try to sharpen it a bit more to improve the perceived sharpness.

Good flight shot, tough to capture. Good head angle and up-wing position (fully up, of course, would have been icing on the cake). Yes to a bit more selective sharpening, but well captured.

Tricky shot for sure Will, I love the downwards glance! I like the exposure also.
At 100% is it bang on focus?

Thanks for the comments guys, Hi Jon, nearly there with the focus, but I wouldn't say it was 100%. This is the same bird, with different flight pose, which one do you prefer.

I prefer the second, wings and eyes better focused. I like the unusual glance of the first but technical specs knock it back.

I also like both but the first one is my favorite because of the unique HA and pose. Details and exposure look great too. Well done William
