This is one from the loch, late afternoon sun. I would have liked to have been closer, as this is one bird, I have never photographed before in flight. I had my car parked on the loch side, captured handheld from behind the car.

Hi Will, lovely flying pose showing the colours on the full down stroke of the near wing, and I like the colours on the head too. The finer plumage detail on the body shows up well enough, and I like the darker colours of the BG. Although he is flying up in the frame, I feel taking a touch off the top will work.

wing position is good and so is the light but the details are lacking a bit, it must have been a huge crop (?)

Oh boy, yep, that is a significant crop to say the least! It held up OK for web, but that is about all you will be able to do with the image. Good plan in wanting to get closer. Cool duck, similar to our Green-winged Teal.

Really nice color and wing position! Getting more pixels on the bird is always a challenge with the small, fast ones like the Green-winged Teal. I like your persistence!

According to the ABA it is our Green-winged Teal but just a different subspecies. The European authorities have split them and call their Common Teal.

That's like less than 10% of the frame! Too bad everything was perfect but the bird way too small in the frame :(

I agree. Looks great but now you just need to figure a way to get closer. Well done
