The male Eiders are now returning to the harbour in good condition after the moult. I have probably photographed this bird, more than any other, because they are so close to me. The Blacks/Whites have always been a problem, and a great critique, especially from my early days with Arash and David.

I think I am 'getting there'

Great shot of a stunning bird. I hope to some day visit somewhere to see some Eiders. Not sure if I like the inclusion of the dark strip at the top of the frame. May be better with just the blue but that may also make the crop a little too tight.

Yes Will I can imagine your pleasure with this frame. They are not easy to get in good light and show off all their beautiful colours but you have certainly done it this time. Great shot well done, lovely head turn too.
Now lets have another shot with the same details and colours ...but with a wing flap:bg3:

Like the slight head turn. I think higher in the frame without the dark band would work better. TFS

Hi Will, great HA, low shooting angle, and yes, with those various colours on this fellow, you have seemed to have nailed the exposure throughout. The slight bow wave adds interest. Well captured.

William, kille looking duck, wish we these here in Southern CA. Nice angle, BG and HA.
