Got this guy last night as the sun was about to go over the horizon. Finally got one that had a decent BG.

Nikon D80, 300mm f4 x 1.4, 1/125 5.6 ISO 400, fill flash -1 2/3

Comments/ critiques appreciated

I like the singing pose Dan, and the eye contact is nice too. You used fill flash effectively here. A little more sharpening is probably in order, but otherwise excellent.

thanks Doug. the tif looks tack sharp. I have been dinged a few times here for not sharpening for the web enough, I'll get the hang of it sometime, I might try to oversharpen for the web next time and see if it improves.

Thanks

Here's a repost with more sharpening of the bird and extra sharpening of the eye and feet. It does take practice to get the hang of web sharpening, but it makes a big difference.

I'd like more room at the bottom of the frame just to give extra room for the hidden tail that most likely extends close to the edge behind the perch (if not lower). Perhaps flipping the camera and taking a vertical would have been better too. Nice singing pose, and Doug's additional sharpening improves your image.

Very sweet light when you made this. I'd probably gone vertical, unless there was something on the way. It also works well as presented.

Thanks for the comments, I will crop it vertical and see how it looks, thanks for suggestions
