About this time last year, a small flock of Rusty Blackbirds visited our local lake -- actually a swampy area off the lake, tucked among heavy growth. They are uncommon visitors to the area. The sun had dipped below the trees leaving this spot in deep shadow. This female was turning over leaves in search of a late snack. High ISO and fill flash were needed to pull her out of the shadows.
