I really like the down stroke and beautiful colors of the shoreline and the water. Also that the bird is flying towards us. Not sure about when you get out to do shooting but it seems many of your shots are when the sun is quite high. For birds like these you really want to shoot them in early morning or late evening light. You do not have the issue of harsh shadows then provided you get the right angle on a flying bird. I always try and keep the sun directly at my back and my shadow pointing at the bird. Maybe a few degrees off center but any more than that and shadows always become an issue.

The light does look like it was harsh - the very bright ground helped reflect some of it under the bird, which is a good thing to happen. I'd prefer a bit of the top cropped off. Great looking blues.
