Good Afternoon All,

Just a quick background on me. I've only been doing photography for about 7 years. I started with the usual portrait photography of family and friends, then eventually gravitated to macro. Due to ACL surgery, I found myself stuck at home watching out bird feeders. So I started taking photos of birds with my 70-200mm ... which I quickly found to be lacking for bird photography.

With all of that in mind, I started editing photos with Lightroom and have stayed with LR as I went into bird photography. I now see that a lot of photographers use DPP and then transfer to Photoshop.

I would appreciate any opinions and thoughts as to what the various photographers here use. And why.

Thank you,
Marlo Casabar

why I use DPP ? because it gives superior image quality compared to LR, especially at higher ISO. It is easier to use, and it is free, it doesn't need internet connection and a subscription account to work.

DPP is for Canon only BTW, do you have a Canon camera? If you have a 5D MKIV and shoot DPRAW only DPP can process thise files.

If you take sharp and well exposed RAW's you can get great results with any RAW converter, the amount of effort and adjustments it takes to generate a quality output is different though

Thank you Arash. I admire your work and appreciate your comments. I see that you have a co-written the "DPP 4 Raw Conversion Guide" with Art Morris. I will purchase that today. Do you have any other books/guides that you would recommend as I transition to DPP?

Hi Mario, DPP guide covers RAW conversion using DPP and Post Processing Covers all the steps after that, i.e. how to generate a high-quality output after you convert the TIFF into a RAW. These should cover all of your processing needs
