Western Demoiselle (Calopteryx xanthostoma)

female - SW France

1/80th sec - f18 - ISO 400
Nikon V1 + Nikon 300mm f4 AF-S

I am happy with the leaves on the edge of the frame
and the central position of the subject

f18 - I wanted the DOF as I do with all my Dragonfly shots

Taken as a jpeg so it lacks little something

Very nice head-to-tail sharpness on your subject and good DOF on the leaves. I would suggest that the image would be even better if you selectively toned down the brightest areas of the background. I see that the head is closer to the frame edge than is the abdomen, giving the appearance that the damsel is looking out of the frame. I think the comp would have been stronger if you had moved the camera a little to the right - and had included the tip of the leaf. Just something to think about next time out. :S3: Overall, this is very well done.

Very nice indeed, I don't understand Bill why you are shooting jpeg - who knows how good this really could have been? Having said that I like the image very much indeed.
My initial thought was relating to the angle, would it have been possible to have taken the image from a slightly lower viewpoint, maybe you considered that and didn't like the saw tooth at the bottom coming up more central?
