I love the graphical nature of this shot and colours are almost surreal!

A different shot it pays to try differing angles. For me the wings are just beautiful and you have good DOF.
From a personal point of view I wish we were looking the opposite direction...I know it's traditional but I would prefer to see the head as opposed to the tail..... but then maybe the wings would not be so beautifully rendered.

Thanks Jonathan - I was looking for something "different"

More traditional
f18 - D810 - ISO 1400 - 300mm PF + 1,7TC - 1/500th

but still not that "sharpe"

I have a Nikon 105mm f2.8 VR micro - but it never seems to work for me

Awesome colors which combine very nicely with the color of the BG. Is that water?

Hi Bill, I kinda like this, different from standard shots, colors are awesome, wings are nice and sharp, what might have made this shot even more interesting is maybe a bit higher angle but not alot, to see the wings from a top down view if you get what I mean, But overall a great shot.

Bill, call me old fashioned but I really like your second image.
Have you microadjusted the macro lens I cannot see why it should not give good results?

Sure, the traditional head-on shots are what we are accustomed to and are beautiful, but I would suggest that there is also a place for something "different." :S3: In that regard, I like this image - plus the wings are tack sharp, the background is clean, the colors are beautiful, and you have good comp and lighting. Very nicely done!
