Another from Iceland, shot at 10:00 pm on 7 July. I have some others with full-extension, but I liked this partial wingflap as well.

Excellent image of beautiful bird. I like the partial wingflap and it's reflection.
Beautiful composition.

Hi Bill, I like the wing position bc you have great detail of the many feathers underneath! The throat and eye really stand out and good exposure on the whites here. well done.

Good choice for the wing position, Bill. Love the light we had that night. Beautiful feather detail captured, and I like the elongated feather reflection created by water ripples. Nicely done.

Bill:

Lovely loon, I like the partial flap, when facing the camera, does show the wing texture well.

I might consider softening the background every so slightly, as I find my eye wandering up there a bit too much. I really like that there is something back there, but would soften it just a bit.

Cheers

Good idea Randy. I'll give it a try.

Hi Bill, love the low angle and the BG, dynamic pose. but for me the image, particular the head looks soft. Was the RAW sharp?

Hi Arash. I'm afraid this is another one that falls into the category of "almost sharp". I liked it for the same reasons you did, but almost didn't post it because the RAW file was not quite razor sharp as I would have liked. Unfortunately, that seemed to be the case with many of the images I made that night. I came away with some good sharp ones, but not as many as I would have liked or expected.
