Sadly most of the butterflies have gone now, just an occasional one despite the current heatwave. This was taken back in JUly in the back garden, I used the zoom to keep the background clear, I was finding the macro lens did not provide the flexibility of framing I required.

Hi Jon,
I like the patterns in the underwing of this butterfly and the backlit look - wonder if it can go a bit lighter in the dark areas without adding too much noise.

Great use of the 100-400 Jonathan, it is such a versatile lens. Nice detail on the head and eye and nearly there with the DOF on the far wing. I know how difficult it is to show any detail on the dark part of the wing on these insects, they appear almost solid black. Pity about the separate leaf on the right, I find it a little distracting but there is not much you can do about that.

David, Allen I think you are right, I originally thought I had done enough with the dark areas but here is a repost as you suggest, I think it is better
