There is a farm in Wales called Gigrin farm. Back in the 90's the farmer began work to help the suffering Red Kite population, and the work done there has been very successful. They now feed the kites daily, and the population is booming. It's a popular spot for photographers, here's my favourite from today.

Canon 1dx
500mm f4 is
ISO 2000
1/3200th f5.

Considering that you guys across the pond hardly get Any direct sunlight, this is about as good as it gets! Exposure looks nice and not grainy at all and I like the fact that you upped the ISO to get a good shutter speed.
If they fly anything like our kites and Harriers, you could probably could safely shoot these guys at 1/2000th but the ISO performance looks great. Sweet pose, HA and BG. Maybe just a little bit brighter? Very well done.

Looks very good on my screen, especially the back lighting on the wing and tail edges.

Thanks Sharon. They feed the Kites the same time each day with beef, there is a designated field and the farmer turns up and scatters the meat over the field, and they all go mad for 20-30 minutes. A bit scripted but a great spectacle. Have a look at http://www.gigrin.co.uk

Cheers David, I'll take a look at the brightness.

Regarding the shutter speed, this is part of a feeding frenzy, so they're constantly twisting and turning, so I went for the extra speed. After the feed when they glide around I can drop the speed a bit.

Thanks Stu, good to see you around again. Swapped the 5d3 (and soon to lose the 7d2 as well) for a 1dx. Not regretting it as of yet!
