Having to delete many images of bathing birds as they come up out of the water after bathing, with only the feet showing in the top of the image, I decided that it was time to shoot this behavior in vertical format.

Nikon D3, 850mm, 1/1600 @ f 6.7, ISO 400

Thanks for looking.

Great light, eye contact and composition. Good move to go for a vertical. They must be really quick to see so much wing blur at 1/1600s. Thanks for sharing.

I really like the wing position and the composition!

The wing blur was probably caused by a lack of DOF.

Smart decision, my friend, I like the blurred wing. I'm always getting the forward wing OOF, so I hear ya :)

You left too soon!

I really like the composition of that shot. I looked and looked at it and tried to imagine it being horizontal but I think the vertical perspective really works to convey the sense of upward motion that you were looking for. I shoot a Canon, but from what I understand of the D3 capabilities I wouldn't be afraid to crank up the ISO to get a smaller aperture and the greater depth on field on that shot in the future. Just an idea.

I like the comp and blurred tips. Exposure is bang on as well.
