This Grey Heron was wading in shallow water when it made a sudden take off having seen a fish, he missed it! A little head/wing separation would have been nice.

Head wing situation only a whisker away David, water droplets from the trailing feet adds a nice touch, don't know how you feel but a tiny nit that bit of twig does draw my eye a little bit, feel like i would like to push it under the water,it's a cracking image you have caught which I would be very pleased to own.

What Keith said about the twig and head being too close to the wing. But it's still a frame that I'd be proud to have, too. What I love the most in this image is the reflection off of the water on the underside of the near wing. Beautiful, David!

I like the take off and the trailing water drops but the wing position isn't great, especially the near wing

Nice shot David I like the image - good action well stopped. I agree with your own observation but I must admit I wouldn't say no to a shot like that.
Did you use Standard Camera setting in DPP4 for the raw conversion, if so I would suggest setting the contrast to -1 just to see if you like appearance - WDYT?

Sharp with a nice BKGR. The light was a bit bright. f/5.6 would have softened up the reeds a bit.
