This image was created on the Isle of May, Scotland on the last morning of my recent Zegrahm's Wild Britain cruise with the Canon 400mm f/F IS DO lens and the MIII handheld. Exposure +1 1/3 stops off the gray sky (a bit less than usual overexposure because of a hint of sun and the faint backlighting. Though the bird were literally hanging right in front of us they were shifting too and fro and in addition, the 30mph winds made things tough, especially getting the bird in the frame! I needed to add a bit of wingtip here to the bird's right wing. Now it's off to Bonaventure for gannets! Back on 21 June.

Way to go Artie! It's been lonely here on BPN without you. Good luck with the gannets!

My dream image, been wanting to get one like that for years!

I do find the white spots a bit distracting, maybe toning them down, Viveza would do a great job, with the control point color selection.

Good luck on your Gannet adventure and say hi to Chris!

Very nice capture Arthur. Love the eye contact and that, unbeliveable amount of fishes on the bill. Each time I see one of this guys with such amount of fishes I cannot but wonder how they manage to fish and keep the preys on the bill. I agree with fabs about toning down the whites on the BG and I suggest to add more room at the bottom.

A dream image for sure Artie. One we would all dearly love to capture I am sure. Love the straight on view and the sense of speed in this capture and of course all those little fish just put it over the top. !!! Excellent !

Very cool pose and quite a load of fish. Great to see the wings so well as they are usually blurred due to high wing flap frequency.

I hope you had a great trip. Have fun with the gannets, I'm envious. :)

Sweet !! Are the round highlights caused bu the DO lens ?

Hi Lou, I do not believe that they are caused by the lens as I have seen similar stuff with the 500 and the 600 when there are specular highlights in the BKGR.

Awesome pose! Would love the opportunity to photo these guys. I would maybe crop a bit off the top?
