An early morning robber fly resting before the hunt.

Robber flies are very cool predators! Excellent sharpness and detail within your DOF and I like the soft, even light! I would only wish that you had a little more depth such that the "beak" was also sharp - but given your shooting specs, you didn't have a lot of wiggle room unless you raised the ISO higher. :S3: Other than that minor point, this is very nicely done!

Agreed it doesn't get much better than this just a little more DOF required. With subjects like this I try to get my initial shot asap then take additional ones at different apertures or focusing on different areas to try to get ideal DOF, I also move back a little too.

Like the way the bg fades out on this one,Sharp where it matters.
I reckon with toodays cameras its good to rack out a bit more- for a smaller image and more depth.
Cheers

Good suggestions for getting an increased DOF. Thanks all!

Excellent points above on a wonderful shot. I might consider blurring the right lower corner surface a bit.
