The melting country roadside snow bank created a neat icy crust for these guys to wander along onto. These guys are signs of spring before spring even starts knocking at the door:c3:.

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/2500s., f/8, ISO 400, natural light, handheld from the car, just about FF, a few of the worst offending specks in the snow removed via clone and spot removal tools, the shadow under the bill lifted a bit via dodge tool. Audio used to coax the subject closer.

Great to have the horns up. Nice colors, background and excellent pose.

Nice little devil:). I like the natural light , shooting angle and the composition. And I do like head on shots. TFS.

It's a great shot, Daniel, well-posed, well-lit and sharp. And now I know why they are called horned larks. Two questions: is it really on one leg and is it possible to lift the eyes a little more? Thanks for sharing.

The difference in colours and texture between the FG and BG is pretty cool. I love the pose and detail on the bird.

Thanks guys!

Ihtisham: Yes, the bird is standing on one leg in this frame - the only frame that it did so. I suppose I could lighten the reflections in the eyes but there is not much else to do with black on black.

Like the diagonal created by the snowy perch. This is the perfect head angle to visualize the horns, and your DOF is just right.

I like the pose, ice perch, composition and complimentary BG. Very well done as always Daniel.
